Dry River Wilderness
A long weekend in the Dry River Wilderness
The Dry River
For the first few miles we hiked up along side the Dry River.
Eventually we stopped for lunch alongside the Dry River
We kept gaining a little elevation
Our Camp
Once we got to the Isolation Trail we looked for a camp spot and found a nice little ridge with a campsite on it.
Our campsite was right along the Dry River Trail
I filtered water from a stream of the Dry River
From our campsite we had a good view of the sunset.
After the sun had set Jess rousted me out of the tent to see the Crescent Moon.
While hiking on the Isolation Trail we found our first snow!
Mt. Isolation
Our destination was Mt Isolation and once we got to the summit we got a great view of Mt Washington. Clouds were rolling in surrounding the summit. We got great views of the Dry River Wilderness and the Southern Presidentials.
After Mt Isolation we hiked back towards Mt Washington and found this campsite a little way from the junction.
The Ridge
The next day we hiked up the ridge to circle around Mt. Washington
At first the ridge was really great with good weather.
Once we got closer to Tuckerman Ravine we could sometimes see the summit from out of the clouds.
Mt Washington started to peak out of the clouds.
Lake of the Clouds still had a little ice on it.
We had a pretty good view from Lake in the Clouds Hut
Mt Pierce was socked in with rain but I got a photo of the marker.
The path to Mt Pierce was full of rain and wind.
After much slogging we made it to the Nauman tent site our home for the evening.
Tuesday morning with still damp weather we made our way back to the car.
On Mt. Jackson we were able to stop for a little break.
We stopped at Mt Webster for lunch.
As we were hiking down to the car we got under the clouds and got some nice views of the valley and Rt 302
The car!
We made it back none the worse for our days spent in the wilderness.
